Zombies, Vampires, Cannibals, Aliens, Big-Ass Monsters x 7, and Good, Old-Fashioned Serial Killers. So Much to Love!
Shock Till You Drop just gave us the list of 25 ‘new’ horror movies that are being added to the Netflix queue for May. Let’s cherry-pick some of the good stuff:
Bram Stoker’s Dracula. No, it’s not the Gary Oldman one, or even the Gerard Butler one. It’s the Jack Palance one from 1974. Seems like this particular Kind of the Vampirs ocmes back every 40 years. Give it ap ass.
Fido is an absolute joy, a post-apocalypse romantic comedy (no, really) with actor/comedian Billy Connolly in a brilliant wordless performance. Skewed, creepy and ultimately affecting, it’s absolutely worth a look.
A couple of indisputable classics that we won’t be able to resist revisiting: From Dusk Till Down(the first, the best, maybe the only one worth watching) … six different Godzilla movies, plus one Ghidora … the raggedy-ass below-low-budget Maximum Overdrivefrom Mr. Stephen King, and of course…ladies, and gentlemen, Rodan.
If you haven’t seen Jeff Bridges’ goofy, endearing performance as an alien in a human body, be sure to catch Starman sometime this month.
Get all creeped out about cannibalism in the wild west in Ravenous, with an unusually interesting cast: Guy Pearce, Robert Carlyle, David Arquette, Jeffrey Jones. This is one we’re putting on the list. How did we miss it?
The Riverman isn’t a rip-off of Candyman(though that would be cool); in fact it’s a fictional take on the real live Ted Bundy murders with a very class cast, including Bruce Greenwood of Star Trek and everything else, Ken Yeager of Parenthood, Kathleen Quinlan who we will always love and remember from Twilight Zone: The Movie, and – of all people – Cary Elwes at Ted Bundy.
And the only interesting thing, really, about Urban Legends: Bloody Mary is the involvement of Kate Mara, who had one good line in the first Avengers movie, got killed last season in House of Cards (oops! Sorry! SPOILER ALERT!), and is slated to be the new Sue Storm in the Fantastic Four reboot (but will she be blonde? We were rooting for Sara Paxton!)
Actually not a bad array for the month. Enjoy!
