There have been a wide range of attempts to bring humanity to the zombie apocalypse — to get past the all-too-repetitive blood-and-guts of the premise itself. Everything from Maggie to Contracted to the very realistic grief expressed in the endless carnage and cruelty of The Walking Dead speaks to this goal; even the zompoc video games like The Last of Us attempt it.
Now, with Cargo, the phenomenon of the zombie apocalypse itself takes a back seat to a story of desperation, heroism, and parenthood, as the always incredible Martin Freeman (yes, Frodo and Dr. Watson and Jim from The Office) joins up with the producers of The Babadook and two first-time feature directors for Cargo.
The premise — including great special make-up effects and a literal “countdown clock” — are well-displayed in this trailer. We’ll be in the theater on May 17, for sure, to see if the film measures up to this promise…
Australia continues to make some of the most interesting horror and suspense movies available these days … and haven’t the career of the leader actors in both versions of The Office been amazing (John Krazinski of A Quiet Place and Martin Freeman of … well, everything else worth watching). Gotta love these guys.
