If you haven’t found We’re Alive yet, you’re missing a treat. But you better hurry.
Hard to believe that it’s been five years since Kc Wayland and his hardy band of survivors started fighting the walking dead in post-apocalyptic Southern California. But it’s true: this beautifully made and deeply realized zombie adventure/drama has been cranking out three episodes a month — some of the best-produced audio on the web, and free for all. At least until July when We’re Alive comes to a conclusion.
So much of recently made audio drama is either a parody of the Golden Age of Radio (and not all of it awful: check out Thrilling Adventure Hour sometime) or just poorly made “twist ending” pieces. But Weyland and his crew are way beyond that. What began as a pitch for TV series back in the pre-Walking Dead days, has become a complex and effective story that just keeps growing and growing. And the most recent episode — with the deaths of some long-time characters– is one of the most emotionally affecting installments to date.
You can catch it all as well as background information and information about the series finale set for July. It’ll be a shame to see it go, but getting there has been incredible. Jump on board now here or on The Nerdist Network.
