“Ghost Town” usually means  “Cheesy-Drive Tourist Trap.” But the tiny town of Rhyolite’s doing something different – and better – with Rhyolite.

Rhyolite 1A few years back, the late Belgian artist Albert Szukalski made something eerie and amazing in the Nevada desert. A He came to Rhyolite, an abandoned mining town about 120 miles northwest of Las Vegas, where he created some truly haunting sculptures out of nothing more than plaster, burlap and some life models.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Rhyolite 3Fearnet.com and Shawshank’s Nest have put together some amazing pictures of the installation; for the art and arcane fans amongst you, it just might be worth the trip out of Vegas, to what’s now known as The Goldwell Open Air Museum.
