No, we don’t need another pseudo-documentary. No, we don’t need another rip-off of Scary Movie, since Scary Movie wasn’t all that funny to begin with. Doing funny and frightening in the same breath is tough stuff. In fact, short of Beetlejuice and The Frighteners, it’s had to think of any really successful combination of the comedic and the horrific. Okay, sure, The Ghost and Mr. Chicken, but that sort of masterpiece only comes along once a generation.
Still: Ghost Team One is a pretty good effort. It turns out to be a sexy/funny parody/pastiche of half a dozen current horror movie tropes, and it doesn it pretty damn well, especially for a movie made for about a buck and a quarter. Lots of talent, lots of possibilities, and worth a couple of bucks on VOD.
