Yahoo Travel got a li’l bit spooky a while back with this slide-show of deserted town to see, but … Chernobyl? Really?

rhyoliteYou find creepy stuff in the strangest, most unexpected places (that’s one of the things that makes it creepy). And the weirdest corner of the interwebs this week is Yahoo Travel, where we can across a list of 13 Ghost Town around the world. From Machu Picchu to Namibia, from UnderSeattle to Oradour-sur-Glane, France…pretty good choices

Except maybe for Pripyat, Ukraine. Apart from the current unpleasantness with the Russian Bear, Pripyat was the tidy little town of 50,000 that was right next to the Chernobyl Nuclear Reactor, and it was evacuated in a hurry when Chernobyl melted down. It’s still deserted, but apparently not quite radioactive enough that you can’t visit…if you dare! And…why would you? Come on, you have to wear a rad-badge dosimeter there to make sure you don’t get radiation poisoning while you’re poking through the tragic debris. An abandoned gold mine or the deserted capital of an ancient civilization is one thing, but Chernobyl Diaries notwithstanding, you might want to give Pripyat a pass.
